US must understand the situation of Syrian Kurds: analyst

A Middle East Analyst David Lepeska says the United States should not leave the Syrian Kurds alone, given that the Kurds have played an important role in the fight against the ISIS.

The US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which was followed by the Taliban's takeover of the country, has also raised concerns among some experts and the Kurds about the repetition of such a move in Syria.

In a note published in the National newspaper, Middle East affairs observer David Lepeska expressed concern about the consequences of the recurrence of the events in Afghanistan in the Kurdish regions of Syria. He believes that the withdrawal of US troops from Syria will have a negative impact on this issue, given the country's alliance with the Syrian Kurds in the fight against ISIS.

The Middle East observer referred to the recent Turkish airstrikes on Syrian Kurdish forces and the killing of a number of them along with some of their commanders, and suggested that if US forces withdrew from northern Syria, Turkish attacks on Syrian Kurdish forces would increase.

He called on the Biden government not to withdraw its forces from Syria, but to try to use its presence to reduce tensions between Turkey and the Syrian Kurds and to stabilize the region.
