Kadhimi spoke by phone with Kurdish Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Friday, expressing his condolence to him for the victims of Erbil’s flood.

Heavy rains triggered flash floods in several areas in the Kurdistan Region’s capital early on Friday.

Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed said 12 people died in the floods, which also caused severe damages to houses of civilians, Esta Media Network reported.

Kadhimi stressed in the phone call with Barzani that the federal government would “take all necessary measures to help institutions in the Region cope with the recent wave of floods”, the premier’s office said in a tweet.

In a separate statement, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said Kadhimi reiterated that the federal government would take measures to support the KRG “in this critical time”.

In October, flash floods also caused severe damages to the several places in Erbil. Authorities said home furnishing and equipment of 500 families were “completely destroyed” in the floods.

As many as 130 cars, 127 houses, two schools and a number of other projects were also damaged in the floods.
