In an article on the possible Turkish invasion, political analyst David Lesley believes that Ankara could not launch an operation against the Kurds without Russia's cooperation.
In the article published in the Lebanese newspaper New Lebanon, he explained that Turkey and Russia have common interests in Syria and are forced to coordinate important actions, including military operations.
He suggested that Russia was seeking a concession from Ankara in exchange for giving Turkey the green light.
The Middle East and Syrian affairs analyst believes that Turkey is seeking to seize Tal Rifat and expel Kurdish forces from the city, and that Moscow is urging Turkey to stop supporting rebels in Idlib.
He concluded that Turkey might allow Russia and the Syrian central government to take Idlib out of rebels' control in the face of Moscow's silence on Turkey's attack on the Kurds in Tel Rifat.
He also stressed that handing over Idlib to Russia in exchange for giving the green light to attack the Kurds would be costly for Turkey, so Turkey is likely thinking of offering concessions to Russia which do not include affairs in Syria.
