The ministry announced it "condemns in the strongest terms the Turkish bombardment that targeted government offices and homes in Sinune.”
The ministry stated the airstrikes were "a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and a clear threat to the security of civilians.”
A Turkish drone strike targeting a headquarters of the Shingal Resistance Units (YBS) struck a residential area in Sinune sub-district in the north of Shingal on Wednesday, according to Ezidi Press.
At least one other person was killed, Reuters said.
The bombardment killed Salah Nasir, who was selling school supplies in a shop there, his father announced in a Facebook statement.
The foreign ministry said it will take necessary measures after an investigation into the airstrike.
The former Secretary-General of the Peshmerga Ministry, Lt. Gen. Jabbar Yawar, told NRT on Thursday that Turkish drones fly over the Kurdistan Region daily and Turkey has targeted the Region’s borders 193 times with drones and warplanes from the beginning of 2022 to June.
Meanwhile PUK blamed Turkey’s violation of Iraq’s sovereignty as unacceptable.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan faction in the Iraqi council of representatives said in a statement on Friday, June 17, that "we strongly condemn Turkey’s dreadful behaviors that caused burden for both regional and international countries."
“It seems that Turkey’s perception for opposing its neighbors is composed of Targeting corners of this land, yesterday Sinjar (Shingal) and today Kalar in which only innocent civilians martyr unfairly for the sake of implementing its plans,” it said.
The statement stressed that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has always emphasized preserving Iraq’s territorial integrity and protecting its sovereignty as well as its people.
Therefore we urge the Iraqi government to limit Tukey’s aggressive acts and carry out its own duty to protect the people, and properties of the country as well, according to the statement.
PUK’s faction statement came after when Turkey launched its latest drone strike in the Kurdistan Region on Friday, in which at least four were killed in Kalar district, Sulaimani province.
Turkey has expanded its military campaign in Iraq to destroy the positions of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) which Turkey, the United States, and the European Union classify as a terrorist group.
Ankara has launched a new air and ground campaign in order to eradicate PKK activities in the region seeing itself from establishing military bases and using advanced methods of warfare to target the Kurdish groups.
In April, Turkey launched a new military campaign, targeting PKK positions, Dubbed Operation Claw-Lock, Ankara says the offensive is a measure to prevent the PKK from using Iraq as a base to carry out attacks in Turkey.
The PKK took up arms against the Turkish state in 1984. More than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict, which in the past was mainly focused in southeast Turkey.
