"The issue of Syrian Kurdistan is important because it does not have an official status. It is different from the model of Kurdistan Region," Sedqi Zilan, the Kurdish lawyer and politician in Turkey, said in response to a KurdPress question about the situation in Syrian Kurdistan after attacks by Turkish-affiliated groups on Ain Issa.
The Kurdistan Region is not openly opposed by the regional countries, but they openly express opposition to the Syrian Autonomous Administration and have repeatedly rejected it. It has been attacked by Turkey under the pretext of fighting terrorism, the lawyer said.
Mr. Zilan further noted: "This opposition to the self-ruling administration is managed by the countries of the region in negotiations such as Astana and Sochi, and its manifestation was evident in Russia green light to Turkey to capture Afrin."
He added: "Iran and Russia are two important players in Syria, and Turkey receives concessions from Russia to attack the Kurds and in return deal with Russia over Idlib."
Referring to the coalition's role in preserving the autonomous region innorthern Syria, the Kurdish politician said: "If it were not for the United States and the international coalition, the countries in the region would threaten and destroyed this administration and self-government, and of course this (threat) would include the Iraqi Kurdistan region."
He added: "Turkey is an aggressor and has illegally occupied the territory of Syrian Kurdistan and is pursuing tge goal with the help of Russia and now it (Turkey) is seeking to seize Ain Issa."
Sedqi Zilan emphasized: "Ain Issa is a strategic point for Kurds and its capture will lead to the separation of Cizre and Kobani from each other and the Afrin scenario (occupation) will be repeated."
"Only the United States can prevent Turkey from re-invading Syrian Kurdistan and dissuade Turkey from doing so," he stressed.
The Kurdish politician added: "Currently, the outcome of the talks between the Kurdish parties is very important for the future of the Kurds and it is necessary to form a Kurdish-Kurdish unity in Syria as soon as possible based on Erbil and Duhok agreements."
"The Kurds are under pressure from both sides. They are being threatened by both Turkey and the central government, and Russia is seeking its own interests. If any of these forces accept the existence of the Kurds, the situation of the Kurds in Syria will be stabilized," Mr. Zilan also told KurdPress.
"Kurds hope that the coalition forces and the European countries as well as the US will not allow Russia, Turkey and the Syrian government to attack them," he said.
Mr. Sedqi Zilan ultimately stressed: "Kurds can achieve some kind of autonomy in Syria, and the goal will be achieved through the pressure of the international coalition lobby and unity among Kurds."
