Nouri Maliki says no early elections will be in Iraq

The Leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri Al- Maliki, said that an early election would not be held until parliament resumes its sessions and a new government is formed.

Maliki said in a tweet on Tuesday, September 11, that the Iraqi political parties support the Supreme Court ruling rejecting the dissolution of parliament.
The Federal Supreme Court ruled against the dissolution of parliament on Wednesday, September 7, based on Article 93 of the Iraqi constitution and Article 5 of the federal court’s law on the abolition of parliament.
Maliki added that according to the court’s ruling, an early election can be held after the new government is formed and the council of representatives resume its work.
Shia cleric Muqtada Sadr called for the dissolution of parliament and early elections during a speech following days of protests by his supporters in the parliament building.
