UN team visits Tuz Khurmatu to investigate possible human rights violations

<p style="text-align: left;">The United Nations said on Tuesday, December 12, that as a result of conflict occurred after October 16 a new wave of displacements triggered primary from the Kurdish community in Tuz Khurmatu and casualties were inflicted.

United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said in a statement that it sent a team on Dec. 7 to the district to investigate reports of &ldquo;punitive destruction of property of residents who have been displaced by the clashes in the area in October and reports of intimidation to prevent the safe return of the displaced to their homes.&rdquo;

The mission by the UN which aimed to investigate came after it received reports of forced displacement, indiscriminate targeting of civilians and destruction of property before and after 16 October, NRT reported.

The UN said it conducted interviews and met with a number of officials during its visit to several areas in Tuz Khurmatu.

The UNAMI is set to conduct another mission to the district&rsquo;s remaining areas and those alleged to have been affected during the conflict.
