According to the official website of the KDP, John Wilks held separate meetings with the KDP Leader Masoud Barzani, and Masrour Barzani, Masoud’s son and a leading member of the KDP political office. Masrour is also the KDP nominee for the premiership of the next government in Kurdistan Region.
According to the report the British official and Masoud Barzani discussed the latest developments in Iraq, the formation of the new Iraqi government and the government of the Kurdistan Region, the situation of Iraqi displaced people as well as ties between the Kurdistan region and Baghdad, with Wilks hailing the recent Masoud Barzani’s visit to Baghdad where he met leading Iraqi officials.
It was Barzani’s first visit to Baghdad after the independence referendum of the region on September 25, 2017.
The situation in the oil-rich Kurdish majority disputed province of Kirkuk was another issue that the British official and Barzani shed light on and both called for the control of Kirkuk by all resident of the province and Kirkuk city.
The British official stressed on London’s continuing support to the Kurdish region and its upcoming government.
