According to Anadolu Agency Oytun Orhan, coordinator of Syria studies at the Ankara-based Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM), told a meeting over the regional politics and U.S. withdrawal from Syria that Iran is against the formation of a safe zone and any Turkey operation to theeast of Euphrates.
He further warned that the planned U.S. withdrawal from Syria would create a power vacuum in the east of the river and Turkey, Iran, Russia or PYD/SDF can fill the vacuum.
Orhan went on to add that Turkey plans to take the control of YPG-controlled regions in the north of Syria as it sees the regions as a threat against its security.
