Experts warn new threats awaiting Syrian Kurds

<p style="text-align: left;">Two political experts warned that new threats are endangering the Kurdish-controlled regions in the north of Syria as the threat of the IS is over.

The Kurds in northern Syria are very likely to face more tensions after four years of fight against the IS and retaking the control of almost a quarter of Syria&rsquo;s soil from the terrorist group as Turkey has warned to launch an attack against the Kurdish regions and the central government in Damascus is plans to retake the control of all of the regions in the country.

Aron Lond, researcher at Century Foundation, told Ireland&rsquo;s ITI that almost the main tensions in Syria have remained unsolved, adding that there are disputes between Kurds and Arabs in the north of Syria and the Damascus- Kurds tension worsens the situation and there is also Turkey- Kurds tension therefore any move can turn into clashes.

Meanwhile Renda Salim, the head of Solving Tensions section in Middle East Institute told ITI the former regions under the control of the IS should not be left alone as there are the possibilities of tensions in the regions.

Ms. Salim, pointing to the fact that most of water, agriculture, oil and gas sources in Syria are in the Kurds-controlled regions, stated that Damascus needs the resources to rebuild Syria and therefore it is very likely for the central government to retake the control of the regions either peacefully or forcefully.

She, however, added that the presence of 400 US forces in the north of Syria is enough to prevent any possible Kurds tensions with Turley and Damascus.
