During an interview with NRT’s Program 180, Yawar conceded that vital steps had not been taken to eliminate corruption completely and that there had apparently been little outside interest in conducting probes into corruption in the ministry.
“We have the Divan of the Peshmerga Ministry within the Peshmerga Ministry, as well as we have the Office of Financial Supervision and the Kurdistan’s Commission of Integrity… they can expose corruption cases, so why are they not doing it?,” Yawar asked.
Leaders and officials in the Kurdistan Region have long admitted that corruption is a pervasive problem, but so far have done little to tackle the issue practically.
