Tillerson held a telephone conversation with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani to discuss Baghdad-Erbil relations and security situation in the region, the official website of KRG reported.
The KRG website cited Tillerson as emphasizing on the need of the Iraqi constitution as a basis to become a framework towards resolving Baghdad-Erbil relations.
Tillerson welcomed recent official meetings between the KRG and Baghdad as a means to put an end to the outstanding issues, NRT reported.
He also expressed support for attempts by Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to maintain democracy and hold elections as well as attempts by the region to pass the crises.
Tillerson reportedly referred to the relation between the U.S. and Kurdistan as of immense important and said that his country takes into account the post-IS period.
