Kurdistan Region PM chooses Rania Majeed as economic advisor

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has chosen Rania Majeed as his economic advisor.

A senior KRG official told Draw Media on Friday, September 27, that Majeed was tapped because of her economic expertise.

Majeed currently teaches at the American University in Kurdistan (AUK) and has PhD in economics. She is affiliated with Barzani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Prime Minister Barzani now has three other senior-level advisors: Ashti Hawrami as deputy prime minister for energy affairs, Rebaz Hamlan as advisor for financial affairs, Mohammed Haji as advisor for health affairs.

A fifth advisor is expected to be appointed in the future to head up the KRG’s government reform effort. According to an agreement between the KDP and the Change Movement (Gorran), that position will be filled by someone from Gorran.
