Our unwillingness to form a Kurdish state is not a tactic but our strategy: envoy

The representative of the Democratic Syrian Parliament in the Iraqi Kurdistan region said: "We have not asked the United States to form a Kurdish government and this is not a tactic but our strategy."

About a recent remark by former US Envoy to Syria affairs, William Roebuk, who stated that Washington has explicitly announced to the Syrian Democratic Army that the US does not back the establishment of an independent Kurdish government in the region, the Envoy Hoshang Darwish told KurdPrees that: "This issue is not new and the United States, has stated, both in Iraq and in Syria that it does not seek the formation of a Kurdish government and seeks to resolve the issue within the framework of the governments of Iraq and Syria."

He continued: "As an autonomous administration, we have not asked the United States to form a Kurdish state, and given the current situation in Syrian Kurdistan and the existence of different ethnic groups, we find this challenging."

The Kurdish official further said: "The basis of governance in the self-government is not emphasizing on ethnic issues and all ethnic groups have a role in governing the region."

The representative of the Democratic Syrian Parliament in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region went on to add that: "Resolving the Kurdish issue in Syria is not possible without resolving the issue of other ethnic groups, and we have not requested the formation of a Kurdish government, and this is not a tactic but our strategy."
