The Council of Ministers will discuss details about KRG delegation’s talks with the federal government and the draft budget law for 2020, NRT reported.
The KRG delegation has reached an agreement with the federal government on oil exports and the Region’s share of the federal budget for fiscal year 2020.
The KRG said in a statement that Erbil would send 250,000 barrels of oil daily to Baghdad and in return Baghdad would send the Kurdistan Region’s share of the budget.
KRG Minister of State Khalid Shwani said on Tuesday that Erbil had secured an agreement with Baghdad that is equal for both sides and good for the Kurdistan Region.
He appeared to indicate that the percentage would be around the current figure of 12.67 percent, which he said was arrived at based on a calculation of the Region’s population made by the UN in the 2000s.
The KRG Council of Ministers will also discuss the electricity issue and its obstacles during the meeting.
Electricity provision is a persistent problem in the Kurdistan Region, where blackouts are a common occurrence. During period of greatest demand during winter and summer, the issue is most acute.
Despite repeated government promises, many people still rely on private generators to filling in the daily gaps when government provided electricity fails.
The KRG is currently able to produce 3,500 megawatts, which is expected to increase to 4,000 megawatts in the future. However, demand can spike to 7,000 megawatts during peak use, forcing people to use generators.
