Jihadi groups are changing Afrin demographics: politician tells KurdPress

A Syrian Kurdish politician said that Turkey-affiliated Jihadi groups are attempting to change the demography Afrin, a Kurdish city in northern Syria which has been occupied by the groups for some three years.

Referring to the anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Afrin, Alaa Barakat, a Syrian Kurdish politician, told KurdPress that "It was not only Turkey that occupied Afrin, but all the powers present on Syrian soil allowed Turkey to invade [the city]."

Turkey would not have been able to attack Afrin without the green light from world powers, the politician noted.

He continued: "Turkey was not able to attack without the permission of the world powers, and in fact it was with the permission of the influential powers that captured Afrin, Seri Kani and Gri Spi.

"Afrin is a great pain for the Kurds and today criminal groups are committing crimes, massacres in this region and have displaced people from their homes," Mr. Barakat further said.

He reiterated that the situation will not remain the way it is now and finally Afrin will be recaptured.
