Nechirvan Barzani to meet Trump, Guterres during Davos

<p style="text-align:left">Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has announced that he will meet with US President Donald Trump and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

The event, popularly known as Davos, will be held at a mountain resort in Switzerland over the course of three days starting on Tuesday.
In a statement released on the presidency&rsquo;s websiteon Sunday, January 19, Barzani said that, in addition to Trump and Guterres, he will be meeting with a number of other world leaders during his trip.
&ldquo;[Barzani] is expected to focus on strengthening [the] Kurdistan Region&rsquo;s relations with the international community and to convey the policies and position of Kurdistan Region on regional and world affairs,&rdquo; the statement read.
He will also participate in a panel discussion on Thursday about current situation in the Middle East Region, alongside Iraqi Finance Minister Fuad Hussein, Saudi Arabian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, UN Special Representative for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and Chatham House Director Robin Niblett.
Davos is advertised as an opportunity for world and business leaders to meet and discuss global issues in a relatively private setting. It is also seen by many as elitist meeting that does little to tackle the primary concerns of ordinary people, even if those issues are among those discussed at the meeting.
The theme of this year&rsquo;s meeting focuses on sustainability and global cohesion.
