Poverty increasing sharply in Kurdistan Region: Gorran MP

A member of the Change (Gorran) Movement in the Kurdistan Region Parliament stated that the poverty rate in the region has increased sharply in recent months.

According to Al-Ma'loumeh news agency, Daban Mohammad said: "The increase in poverty in the Kurdistan region has various reasons, the most important of which is the delay in payment of salaries and large payment deductions by the government and the increase in Dollar exchange rate against Iraqi Dinar as well as increasing high prices."

Daban further pointed out: "Due to the suspension of most investment projects in the wake of market instability, job opportunities have been greatly reduced. On the other hand, the KRG has not taken any action to improve the situation. Rather, it completely ignores the deteriorating situation of the citizens."

It should be noted that the KRG pays employees with a deficit of 21% due to Baghdad's denial to send the region's share of budget.
