Iran extends travel restrictions at Bashmakh border crossing

The Bashmakh international border crossing between Iran and the Kurdistan Region will remain closed to tourists until at least June 5.

The decision has been made by Iran in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Head of the relations office at the crossing Esmail Ali said on Thursday, May 20, that Iraqi citizens are not allowed to visit Iran and Iranians are not allowed to travel to the Kurdistan Region through the crossing in Hewraman.
Exceptions for trade activities, medical emergencies, and students remain in effect.
The ban was put in place on February 20.
