Service Turkey – The body of Hasan Basri Furaat, Kurdish politician, former co-mayor of Khanus and grandson of Sheikh Said, was buried in the village of Qol-Hisar with hundreds of people in attendance. The speakers at the ceremony mentioned his efforts to resolve the Kurdish issue and said that Furaat did not bow down to oppression despite pressures and years of living in exile.
World Service – Sabahat Tuncel, a Kurdish politician from Turkey, emphasizes that a security-focused approach to the Kurdish issue is the greatest obstacle to peace. She states that the current process will only yield results if the government moves away from policies of denial and pressure on Kurdish political activities.
