IRNA state news agency reported, quoting Akbari as saying, “Raisi’s trip to Damascus next Wednesday is a very important trip due to the changes and developments that are taking place in the region.”
The trip will be beneficial for Iran, Syria and other countries in the region, according to Akbari.
Raisi’s visit is the first by an Iranian president to Syria since the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011.
Earlier on the day, an informed source told North Press that Raisi will arrive in Syria accompanied by several Iranian ministers. He will then announce the commencement of implementing decisions related to contracts for commercial and construction companies specialized in the reconstruction phase and the launching of economic projects of interest to Iran within the influence of the Syrian government.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will visit Damascus on Wednesday for two days at an official invitation of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, Iran’s ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, said on Sunday.
