Iran-US talks will ease tensions in the region

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry has welcomed the talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, describing them as a positive step.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "We welcome the talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States because this is a positive step towards reducing tensions and strengthening opportunities for dialogue.

The statement stressed: "Iraq reaffirms its full support for efforts to reduce tensions and strengthen stability and security in the region, based on its belief in the importance of pursuing dialogue and diplomacy as a way to resolve conflicts.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry also expressed its gratitude for the role of the Sultanate of Oman for hosting and facilitating the talks, which it described as a supporter of stability.

The US-Iran talks were held in Muscat, mediated by Oman On Friday, February 6, 2026.
