UNAMI special representative meets with Iranian envoy in Baghdad

Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Jeanine Antoinette Hennis-Plasschaert, met with Iraj Masjidi, Iran's ambassador to Baghdad.

According to ISNA, during the meeting, the two sides exchanged views and consulted on the current political situation in Iraq, expressing hope that a new government will be formed and established as soon as possible in accordance with the legal processes in the country.

The two sides referred to their numerous consultations and exchanges with various political figures in Iraq, as well as in the Kurdistan region, and stressed the need for the participation of all political groups in the formation of the new Iraqi government.

Parliamentary elections were held in Iraq on 10 October 2021 but the government formation process is still underway.
