Sadr declared in a Twitter statement on Saturday that leadership from among the Sunnis, Kurds and certain Shia leaders supported his demand to disband parliament.
He stated the dissolution of the Iraqi parliament has become the demand of the people, who can no longer remain patient.
Academics tribes, civil society institutions, and preachers from the Hussainiya congregation halls all responded positively to dissolving parliament, he claimed, adding this came about through the work of his supporters who have been protesting for more than a week.
The Shia cleric stated the "revolution” will continue until the protestors’ demands are met and said there was no alternative to dissolving parliament.
Protestors have been holding sit-in demonstrations in Baghdad’s Green Zone since July 30, when they stormed into the highly fortified area to protest the nomination of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the Coordination Framework’s candidate for prime minister.
Sadr began his call to dissolve parliament and hold new elections last week, after insisting dialogue with the Coordination Framework was useless.
