Iraqi PM Kadhimi repeats call for leaders to convene again

Iraqi Caretaker Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has once again invited top party leaders to convene and address the problems, a fresh initiative week after bloody unrest.

Prime Minister Kadhimi has directed an invitation to the top leader of the Iraqi parties to convene and put an end to the disputes and bring the parties closer, according to Iraqi media.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday at the government palace, located in the Iraqi capital’s fortified Green Zone, a place where repeatedly breached by angry Iraqi protesters.
Kadhimi aims to resolve the outstanding issues by finding a suitable roadmap to escape Iraq from this prolonged political crisis that affects the country, reports from Iraqi media said.
This is not the first initiative launched by the Prime Minister, but it is the fresh one since Baghdad went through a week of bloody unrest and an armed clash between the rival Shiite groups, leaving 47 dead.
Earlier on August 17, with the attendance of the three Iraqi presidencies, the parties held a meeting under Kadhimi’s initiative, but the Sadrist movement led by powerful Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr reject to take part.
