Barham Salih says Iraq won’t turn into base for acts against neighbors

<p style="text-align: left;">Iraqi President Barham Salih stated on Thursday, April 11, that his country cannot accept to turn into a base for any act to bother neighbors and create tension in the region.

He made the remarks during a meeting in Baghdad with Iranian ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi.

Salih urged the need for lowering tensions in the region, underlining the necessity of collective efforts to fight extremism and terrorism to ensure a bright future for regional nations, IRNA reported.

Referring to social and cultural links and joint security and economic interests between Iran and Iraq, Salih reiterated that Baghdad is resolved to promote bilateral relations with Tehran.

He also appreciated Iran's support for the Iraqi armed forces during years of war against the IS terrorist group and said that Iraq tries to be a place of convergence of joint interests of regional governments and nations.
