Kurdistan Region reopens border crossings with Iran

<p style="text-align: left;">The Kurdistan Regional Government&amp;rsquo;s (KRG) Ministry of Interior said on Tuesday that it will allow both the Tawella border crossing in Halabja governorate and the Kele crossing in the Raparin administration to reopen for limited trade activities following extended closures during the coronavirus outbreak.

&ldquo; All the health ministry&rsquo;s measures should be implemented,&rdquo; read the order signed by Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed.

&ldquo; No tourist is allowed to travel to or from Iran through those border crossings without a permit from the interior ministry,&rdquo; it added.

In early March, the Kurdistan Region largely closed its borders with Iran to prevent the spread of the virus.

However, in order to ensure that food and supplies continued to reach people in the Region, limited trade was permitted at some of the larger border posts using special procedures to limited contact between people on either side of the border.
