Iraq seeks to improve security ties with Iran, Russia and Syria

<p style="text-align: left;">Baghdad is seeking a new mechanism to facilitate multilateral security cooperation with Iran, Russia and Syria, an Iraqi Ministry of Defense official said on Monday, May 11.

&ldquo;The security cooperation between Syria, Iran, Russia, and Iraq is still in progress,&rdquo; Joint Operations spokesperson Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji said during an interview with the state-owned Iraq Media Network, adding that it was an important vehicle to exchange intelligence, NRT reported.

&ldquo;The Islamic State&rsquo;s militants have been weakened and they no longer have the ability to disturb the security state, all because of constant operations that are being conducted by the security forces,&rdquo; he added.
