This is the first invitation of its kind sent by Al-Kadhimi since he assumed the premiership on Thursday.
A statement issued by Al-Kadhimi’s office stated that the latter received a phone call from Sisi, during which the latter congratulated the formation of the new Iraqi government.
The statement quoted Sisi as emphasizing "strengthening cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the economic, security and political fields, and activating joint high committees between the two countries."
In turn, Al-Kadhimi invited the Egyptian president to visit Baghdad, where he promised to meet at the earliest opportunity. Al-Kadhimi also expressed his "intention to strengthen coordination within the framework of the tripartite alliance between Iraq, Egypt and Jordan."
