Dr. Zaynab Kaya, a professor at Cambridge University, told The International Relations Magazine that the Kurdish party is expected to make a compromise with the central government in Syria to protect Kurds against threats, including the Turkish invasion.
She stressed that the Syrian government and the PYD are very close to reach this reconciliation.
Dr. Kaya believes that the position of the Kurdish authority in northern Syria - which she believes is under full control of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) - is weak but she thinks that the party is not alone in northern Syria because it did not have a bad relationship with the central government and it is also supported by the PKK.
She further stressed that the Kurdish party has a deep relationship with the PKK in northern Syria, and that Turkish actions, including attacks on Syrian Kurds and the PKK, have not been able to disrupt this relationship.
Dr. Kaya believes that the Kurdish party could not survive and make an autonomous region without the PKK's support and that the tie would continue.
