At the meeting, attended by Kurdistan Region Speaker of Parliament, Ms. Rewaz Fayeq, the development of relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and Iran on the basis of mutual interest and neighborly friendship were underlined, the Kurdistan Region presidency website said in a statement.

Meanwhile preserving regional peace and stability was also affirmed, the statement added.

At the meeting, attended by the President’s accompanying delegation and a number of officials of the Islamic Republic, discussions also focused on the developments in the wider region and other topics of mutual interest.

Before meeting Ghalibaf, Barzani met with new Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi a day after the latter was sworn into office in a ceremony at the parliament in Tehran on Thursday.

The two discussed issues of bilateral concern, according to a readout of the meeting.
