Al-Kadhimi, Macron call for expanding cooperation

<p style="text-align: left;">The Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi announced at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron that Paris is an important partner for Iraq and that Baghdad wants to expand this partnership.

"Paris is an important partner for Iraq and we want to expand this partnership," al-Kadhimi told a joint news conference with Emmanuel Macron, according to Middle East News.

"We are working to activate the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries, and the Iraqis appreciate the role of France in the fight against terrorism," al-Kadhimi said.

Al-Kadhimi said that France supports the rule of Iraq and "this is a privileged position, and we emphasize that Iraqi sovereignty is our red line.&rdquo;

"France has provided many services in the reconstruction of liberated cities, and we will work together on a joint nuclear energy project to generate electricity," the Iraqi PM added.

On the other hand, Macron said that in the meeting with Al-Kazemi they talked about military cooperation in the fight against ISIS, adding: "We want to accompany and participate in important projects in Iraq, especially the Baghdad metro and energy projects. France is committed to providing Iraq energy resources.

The French president continued: "I emphasized the trip to Iraq as a commitment of Paris and the emphasis of the country on the depth of friendly relations between the two countries."

He added: "We support the mobilization of the international community to support Iraq and we believe that the coming months will be important for the activities of the Iraqi government."
