A deepening economic crisis after the COVID-19 pandemic and growing reports of strife within the AKP have raised speculation that the country could be headed for elections well before the scheduled date, but government officials have rejected speculation about snap elections.
The presidential candidate for Turkey’s ruling People's Alliance will be President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Bahceli added.
Erdogan and the long-time leader of the ultra-nationalist, extreme-right Nationalist MHP formed an alliance after the failed coup attempt of July 2016. Their alliance was formalised when the two parties formed what they called a People’s Alliance ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections of June 2018.
The MHP will work "until the end’’ in supporting Erdogan in the 2023 presidential election, Bahceli said.
