In a letter to O'Brien, President Donald Trump's National Security Adviser, US Senator Bob Menendez expressed concern about the security implications of Trump's warm relationship with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to the Herald Tribune.

Referring to the testimony of some of Trump's relatives and prominent journalists about the reason for the withdrawal of American troops from northern Syria, which led to the Turkish invasion of the Syrian Kurds, Bob Menendez called it a sign of the impact of Erdogan-Trump personal relations.

The US senator also cited the silence on Turkey's denial to recognize the Armenian genocide in the US House of Representatives, the impact of Trump-Erdogan's relationship on the Hulk Bank violations in Turkey, and the suspension of Turkish sanctions as the cases which have damaged US national security.

Menendez called for a close study of all telephone calls, meetings and telephone conversations between Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in order to clarify the dimensions of the negative impact of Trump-Erdogan personal relations on the national interests of the United States.
