Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is concerned about the creation of a Kurdish-controlled corridor in northern Syria and occupied two Kurdish-controlled cities during military operations in 2018 and 2019, has recently threatened to regain control of the Kurdish self-ruling administration.
But Anti-War, which links Erdogan's new threat to Russia's new offensive against Turkish-backed rebels in Syria, says Erdogan's renewed threat against the Syrian Kurds as part of his ongoing campaign against Kurds inside and outside Turkey.
The anti-war journal goes on to point out that the Syrian Kurds are allied with Syria and Russia. Therefore, Russia not only would not pressure the Syrian Kurds to leave northern Syria, but may also warn Turkey not to enter the region.
