In an exclusive interview, Abdi shared the details of the Friday attack with North Press saying, “There were US troops and CTG members with me.”
Abdi said the attack took place during his presence in a convoy that included troops of the Global Coalition and CTG forces. “Yes, I was in Sulaimani heading a delegation of the SDF.”
Answering a question on the reason of his presence in Sulaimani, Abdi said, “We have joint operations rooms with Counter-Terrorism agencies of Iraqi government and KRI with the Global Coalition’ knowledge,” adding, “They always lead to fruitful outcomes in favour of the stability of both Syria and Iraq.”
The SDF Commander in Chief indicated that the attack is a clear message by the Turks to express their annoyance and opposition regarding our international relations. “They want to sabotage them.”
“Erdogan seeks to win the elections and creates a state of chaos to eliminate the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria so that he can open the door for a new invasion of the region,” Mazloum Abdi told North Press.
He emphasized the importance of protecting “my people” from any Turkish attack. “Such an attack will never stop the process of stability we have been working on for years.”
As for the relations with the authorities in Sulaimani, Abdi said “Our relations are based on national foundations and joint interests,” adding, “They began during Kobani war in 2014.”
“There is a real partnership in the face of the risk of ISIS in both Syria and Iraq. We will keep defend our relations,” Mazloum Abdi concluded.
I was in the convoy that included personnel of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and the Sulaimani-headquartered Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) when we were attacked, General Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Saturday.
