According to the Kurdistan Press, Al-Hurra, citing American sources, wrote that during Zaidi's visit to Washington in July, the United States provided him with personal security equipment; although it is not clear whether this equipment was purchased or delivered to Iraq by the US government.
Sources have also reported that there has been an offer or contact with an American private security company to train Zaidi's security team or provide advice on ensuring his security.Meanwhile, a Shiite official told Al-Hurrah that Abu Hussein Hamidawi, the Secretary General of Kataib Hezbollah, has threatened Zaidi on several occasions. In turn, there is information that Zaidi also threatened Hamidawi during one of his meetings with Shiite political leaders.
The report also adds that a senior Iraqi security commander announced that a reconnaissance drone had flown over the government palace and the residence of the Iraqi prime minister to collect information.
High-ranking political sources also announced that messages had been received from embassies as well as sources outside Iraq warning of a plan to carry out a targeted operation that could target the Iraqi prime minister.Following these threats, an air defense system has been deployed near Zaidi's headquarters in Baghdad's Green Zone, and the commander of the special forces responsible for protecting the area has also been changed.
