Khafaji stated in a press conference security forces have been deployed to Shingal district and stated the presence of armed men in the area was no longer an issue.
In October 2020, the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) agreed to normalize the situation in Shingal and establish a new administration there.
Previously the KRG said the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and other forces had taken control of the district.
