Party leader says snap elections in Turkey is unlikely

The secretary general of the Rights and Freedoms Party (HAK-PAR) said the Kurds do not have to choose between the two ruling parties or the Republican People's Party (CHP), as neither of them believes in the political and national rights of the Kurds in Turkey.

Referring to the recent situation in Turkey and the faltering position of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Turkish politics, Latif Opozdemir, Secretary General of the Rights and Freedoms Party (HAK-PAR) told Kurdpress in an interview: "The situation is getting worse day by day. The price of the dollar against the Turkish lira is increasing every day and with the increase of the dollar price, the Euro price also increases and consequently the value of the lira would decrease and the price of goods in Turkey would become more expensive."
When the price of goods rises, the living conditions of the people deteriorate, and when the living conditions become unsatisfactory, the people would be dissatisfied and openly express their dissatisfaction with the government, the party leader further said.
Asked if early elections were possible in Turkey, the secretary general of the Rights and Freedoms Party said: "There is little possibility of early elections in Turkey. Two issues will lead to early elections in Turkey. Either Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as President of Turkey, would dissolve the parliament and announce new elections or more than 400 deputies agree with early polls.
At the moment, neither Erdogan is taking such a step because it is to his detriment, nor to there is enough deputies who want early elections," Mr. Opozdemir added.
Referring to the political views of Kurds and Kurdish parties on the situation, the Kurdish politician said: "I consider early elections far from real, but if early elections are held, Kurds are not ready for it because Kurdish nationalist parties in Turkey can not participate in the elections."
He noted that when nationalist parties are unable to participate in elections, they have to support either the ruling party or the republican party. The Kurds do not have to choose between the two, as neither of them believes in a status for the Kurds in Turkey.
The Secretary General of the Rights and Freedoms Party (HAK-PAR) referred to the future of the Kurds in the Turkish political sphere and said: "It is necessary for the Kurds to think of a suitable option for their future in Turkey and unite within a national and democratic program and do not vote to those who do not believe in a political status for the Kurds."
He reminded: "These parties are hostile and incompatible with the Kurds and Kurdish parties. We as the Rights and Freedoms Party are being prepared for the 2023 elections, but so far the Kurdish parties are not moving in the direction of a national policy."
Pointing to the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), he said: "They declare that the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) is a Kurdish party, but this party says we are not a Kurdish party."
The Kurdish political figure went on to say: "It is necessary for the Kurdish national movements in Turkey to coordinate and form an alliance among themselves and take national and democratic politics for the upcoming elections."
