US troops, SDF hold joint military drill in eastern Syria

Members of the US-led international coalition against the Islamic State (Daesh) and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) held a joint military exercise in the countryside of Syria's eastern province of Deir Ez-Zor, near the Iraqi border, Anadolu reported.

The agency said dozens of American and Kurdish soldiers participated in the one-day joint drill on Wednesday, noting that the area where the training took place is close to a town controlled by Syrian regime forces, and is one of the most important points of concentration for Russian forces.

Last Friday Anadolu reported that a special unit consisting of 70 American soldiers had arrived at the army base of Rumeilan in northeastern Syria, adding that the force started training the so-called Special Forces of the SDF on weapons, attack and intrusion operations.

According to the agency, the elements who will complete the training will be distributed to the city of Hasaka and its affiliated town, Al-Shaddadi, and to the Al-Omar oil field in Deir Ez-Zor governorate.
