Official sources are not clear but at least nine people are still missing due to the floods, which began Thursday night, and there is severe material damage.
A spokesperson from civil defense said the flooding on Friday was more severe than previous incidents and the material damage was higher than ever before, adding they expect to see an increase in physical damage.
Residents of Erbil are still searching for family members amid the remains of the flood.
Sarkawt Karash, the civil defense spokesman in Erbil, said the flood-path included many neighborhoods in the eastern part of the city, including Qalaty New, Mamzawa, Sarkarez, Zhyan Project, Kasnazan, and Shamamik, as well as a few other areas.
Karash said seven people drowned because of the flood and another person was hit by lightening in Shamamik.
The spokesman said they do not have the final statistics but explained some have suffered from injuries such as broken legs and a heart attack due to the stress and fear brought on by the floods.
He spoke of one incident in which emergency rescue teams finally managed after two hours to save four people who were trapped in a car. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.
