"Ain Issa is being threatened, but what is clear is that Russia is plotting to put pressure on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to extradite Ain Issa to Turkey," Qadri Can, a member of the regional delegation of the Syrian Kurdistan Democratic Party and also a member of the delegation of the Kurdish Patriotic Council (ENKS) in Qamishli, said in response to a KurdPress question about the fate of Ain Issa after the recent Turkish attacks on the region.
"Turkish-affiliated groups are taking advantage of the Russians' silence and launch attacks, but the SDF has blocked their infiltration," Mr. Can further said.
The official noted that "the presence of General Mackenzie, the commander of US forces in the Middle East, in Syrian Kurdistan sent a message to Turkey and the Turks have not been able to use warplanes in recent attacks."
Qadri Can stressed that "although the Americans have not made a direct statement, we hope that the recent visit of General Mackenzie to Syrian Kurdistan and his meeting with General Mazlum Kobani would change the equation and prevent any attack by Turkey and its affiliated groups."
