Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary Google, said the expansion allows Google to cover languages spoken by nearly 300 million people.
The new languages added, in addition to Sorani, include Assamese, Aymara, Bambara, Bhojpuri, Dhivehi, Dogri, Ewe, Guarani, Ilocano, Konkani, Krio, Lingala, Luganda, Maithili, Mizo, Oromo, Quechua, Sanskrit, Sepedi, Tigrinya, Tsonga and Twi.
Most of the added languages are spoken by several million people in Africa, India, and South America and they bring the total number of languages Google Translates accommodates to 133.
Kurmanji Kurdish was added to the service in 2016.
