Salih Muslim, a member of the leadership council of the Syrian Democratic Union Party, called the Kurdish talks with Damascus mediated by Russia unsuccessful.

He told the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the Kurds were pursuing two goals in negotiations with the Syrian central government; a political solution to the Syrian crisis and the recognition of the Kurdish self-government in northern and northeastern Syria.

However, he stressed that Damascus has not yet agreed to the demands of the Kurds.

He also cited another obstacle to advancing Kurdish demands as Turkey opposition to the Kurds participation in the Geneva peace talks.

Muslim accused Turkey of trying to expel the Kurds from the northern regions of Syria by resettling refugees from other parts of Syria and refugees in Turkey, calling it an attempt to change the population structure of the regions.
