Halbusi’s visit to Erbil is his first to the Region since he was elected as parliament speaker, NRT reported.
The visit by Halbusi also comes three days before a parliament session to elect the President of Iraq.
Several Kurds have so far been put forward for the position, with at least one other nomination expected.
Since the ratification of the 2005 Constitution, a Kurd and a Shia politician have served as president and prime minister respectively, while a Sunni has traditionally held the speakership.
Halbusi was elected as the speaker of the Council of Representatives in Baghdad during a session on Saturday (September 15).
Halbusi, who was the pick of the National Axis Alliance, triumphed over his rivals Khaled al-Obeidi, and Osama Najafi, who was nominated by the Decision Alliance faction.
Halbusi is the former governor of Anbar province.
He easily outpaced his rivals, winning 169 votes. Khaled al-Obeidi earned 89, while Najafi came up far short with 19.
The National Axis Alliance is an umbrella group for Sunni parties in the federal parliament, which includes Halbusi's al-Hal [Solution] Party.
