"All languages present in Syrian Kurdistan have the right to education and reading in their mother tongue, and the cultural rights of all tribes are preserved,” the university official said.
In response to a Kurdish question about the way of education in Syrian Kurdistan, Sherwan Muslim said: "Part of what happened in the Middle East in the last few years influenced Syria. The Kurds in Syria have an ancient history and culture. And their existence is a historical existence, and we were already present for these events, and we organized ourselves accordingly.”
He continued: "Our strategy in the revolutions that took place in the Middle East was a different strategy than the other oppositions, and we chose the third way."
"We rose up for the rights of the people and to achieve their demands. Everyone knows that the revolution is one of the most important factors of any revolution and uprising, and on this basis, a renaissance in language and culture was created in Syrian Kurdistan," Sherwan Muslim said
He added: "We started with administrative and political organization and started making organizations in the field of education, and today the self-management system has been officially announced."
The Kobani University official emphasized: "Our effort is not to deprive anyone of education and we do not follow the educational foundation based on the Ba'athist system."
The Vice Chancellor of Kobani University explained: "The education system in Syrian Kurdistan is based on the cultural and identity conditions of the region. The rights of the languages in the region are preserved and all of them are taught, and in the areas where Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians live, each has its right to read and write in their own language.”
Regarding the recognition of languages in different cantons of Syrian Kurdistan, Sherwan Muslim added: "In Cizre region, Arabic and Syriac are the main languages. In the region of Kobani, Kurdish is one of the main languages and in the Arab regions, Arabic is one of the main languages. It is necessary for students to learn other languages as well.”
He pointed out that the curriculum left from the Ba'athist era could no longer be taught due to misconceptions and unrealistic historiography, and committees were formed for making new curricula, and now new curricula are being used.
Shervan Moslem reminded: “In Kobani, Kurdish is used in schools from pre-school to university level, and in other areas, the same materials are taught in three languages: Kurdish, Arabic and Syriac.”
The Vice Chancellor of Kobani University further told KurdPress that: "Several conservatories and three important universities were established in Syrian Kurdistan. Rojava University in Qamishlo, Kobani University and Afrin University are the three most important universities in Kurdistan. The University of Afrin is has been transferred to Shahba region due to Turkish occupation of Afrin.”
He ultimately pointed out: "We are making preparations for (North) university in Raqqa. In all universities, there are various medical, technical, and social departments where students start their education after obtaining the necessary grades.”
