Mala Baxtiyar says PUK and KDP are responsible for election delay

Mala Baxtiyar, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) High Political Council, told NRT the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) are responsible for delaying parliamentary elections.

Baxtiyar said the PUK and KDP do not want elections to be held on time but he did not offer an explanation for the parties' reason for delaying them.
He stated further delays to the polls would cause greater public dissatisfaction and lead to a loss of trust in the Kurdistan Region's authorities.
The current Kurdistan Parliament met on Thursday, when the parliament speaker and the heads of political blocs discussed holding the elections on time. An amendment to the election law and the election commission was also discussed.
The Kurdistan parliamentary election was set to be held in October but so far, the electoral commission has not been formed and no preparations have been made.
