Two Kurdistan parties' officials to visit Baghdad with a candidate to resolve presidential issue: PUK senior staff

A senior member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said it is very likely that officials of two Kurdish parties would go to Baghdad with a candidate in the near future with the aim of solving the issue of the Iraqi presidency.

Ghiyas Sorchi told NAS News Agency that: "We have not yet reached an agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) regarding the appointment of a joint candidate for the post of Iraqi president, but we will definitely not go to Baghdad with two candidates and the trip of the officials of the two parties (KDP and PUK) with 'a common candidate' to Baghdad is likely in the near future.

Sorchi added: "There are continuous meetings between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and I am optimistic that the officials of not only the two parties, but the officials of 5 other influential Kurdistan parties will go to Baghdad with a common candidate."
