Ismail Besikci says PKK should adheres to laws in Kurdistan Region

Ismail Besikci believes that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) does not obey the laws and structures of the Kurdistan Regional Government and that its aim is to humiliate and destroy these structures.

In an article, Turkish sociologist and researcher Ismail Besikci criticized the PKK approach in the Iraqi Kurdistan, calling on the group to adhere to the law and respect the KRG.

Ismail Besikci, who is known for defending the rights of the Kurds during the dark ages of Turkey, had previously spoken out in an article about the PKK's cooperation with Hashd al-Shaabi in Shingal and opposition to the KRG policies.

Besikci has been criticized by the PKK supports for making remarks against the group. However, he once again criticized the PKK approach to the KRG, and in particular the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

"Today, Kurds live in various European countries, most notably in Germany. Many of them are affiliated with the PKK, or at least support it. In countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, the PKK has adapted to the structure and law of their governments. In addition, Kurdish immigrants live in cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Adana and Mersin. Many of these Kurds are also linked to the PKK. Naturally, the PKK in these cities also adheres to the structure and law of the Turkish government. The same is true in Diyarbakir, Van and Batman. But the PKK does not abide by the rules and structures of the KRG. It wants to humiliate the region and put pressure on it," Besikci wrote in the article.

Besikci believes that in the events that led to tensions between the PKK and the KDP in recent months, it was the PKK forces that attacked the Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region, and the boycott of the fratricidal war by the KDP leader Masoud Barzani prevented escalation.

He also believes that issues between Kurdish groups should be resolved through dialogue, but stresses that before that, "the law and legitimacy of the KRG must be accepted and criticisms should be discussed through dialogue."
