The regions of Hama, Latakia, Tartous, Aleppo, Damascus, Idlib, Hasaka, and Raqqa were shaken by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck southern Turkey at dawn on Monday. Over 2.000 Syrian casualties, dead or injured, were recorded by the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.
The AANES stated that it is ready to receive those affected by the earthquake from outside its regions and provide them with adequate assistance.
It expressed the “readiness of all its institutions” and “full alert at all necessary levels,” according to the statement.
Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), extended his condolences and expressed sympathy for the families of the earthquake victims in all Syrian regions, saying his forces were ready to extend a helping hand.
Ilham Ahmed, President of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said, “regional and international solidarity is an urgent necessity to help those affected.”
Badran Jia Kurd, Deputy Co-president of the AANES, said the AANES will not hesitate to help all those affected by the earthquake.
He stressed the AANES’ readiness to facilitate the reception of the wounded and affected from any Syrian region.
Syria witnessed an earthquake at 4:17 am which had its epicenter near Gaziantep, Turkey.
The Syrian National Earthquake Center (NEC) said that the earthquake struck north of the city of Iskenderun, on the Turkish coast, with a magnitude of 7.7, while Tartus, on the Syrian coast, recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4.
The earthquake caused the collapse of several buildings across Syria. Many people are still said to be stuck under rubble.
